Medical excess has been characterized as a low value healthcare, mainly because it can hurt patients an threaten sustainability of health systems. Overdiagnosis indices overtreatments that can induce adverse effects of interventions, high treatment burden, psychological stress and increased costs. Recognizing this reality, Cochrane has recently launched the Cochrane Sustainable Healthcare as a new Cochrane group focused on addressing medical excess.

Cochrane Portugal, in partnership with Choosing Wisely Portugal and the Institute for Evidence Based Healthcare at the University of Lisbon Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy is offering a webinar entitled “Overdiagnosis and Low Value Healthcare”. The webinar – featuring Minna Johansson (Cochrane Sweden) and Holger Schunemann (Cochrane Canada) - will take place October 12, from 17.00-19.00 h (Lisboa time).
